Questions

What people ask before joining

Do I need an eye exam if I see fine?

Yes. Some eye conditions cause no change in your vision at first, so the exam checks the health of your eyes as well as your prescription.

How often should I have an exam?

Most adults every one to two years, and once a year after 65 or if you have diabetes. Dr. Madrid sets your schedule after your first exam.

What is a membership, and is it insurance?

A membership is an agreement with this practice. The plan lists the visits it includes. It is not insurance, and it does not pay for anything it does not list.

How much does a plan cost?

The office gives you the current plan fee in writing before you join. See how fees work for what sets the fee and what is billed separately.

Do you work with my vision plan?

Some visits can be billed to a vision plan and some cannot. Call with the name of your plan and the office tells you before your visit.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A visit for an eye problem, an eye disease check or a follow-up is a medical visit. A routine exam is a vision visit. Many visits are both, and we explain which part goes where.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes, when the fitting is finished. You get a copy, and you can order your lenses anywhere.

How do I cancel a plan, and what do I get back?

Cancel any time, in writing. The refund rule on your plan says what is returned for the unused months, less any visit you have used.

What is an eye emergency?

Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.
